This Peach Sets the Bar
Penn State gives a nod to the Red Haven peach as the "standard and most popular peach variety in the industry." This high praise is well-deserved because of the outstanding quality and taste of Red Haven's semi-freestone fruit. Even Red Haven's ornamental value is superior -- its pink blossoms in spring are also fragrant!
Fresh and Frozen
Red Haven peaches are some of the best freezing peaches you can find. While other peach varieties don't hold well in the freezer, a bumper crop of Red Haven peaches is easily frozen so you can enjoy these fruits year-round! They'll taste as good when you thaw them as when you picked them off the tree.
Freezing Tips
If you'll take the time to chop your peaches -- or puree them in your food processor -- and add 1/8 teaspoon of ascorbic acid to each quart of prepared fruit, your peaches will hold up even better in the freezer. Pack into plastic freezer containers or zippered plastic freezer bags. If you love peach fruit smoothies, freeze portions into the right measurements for each smoothie, and simply take out one portion at a time!
The Insider's Secret to High Yields
Well-branched and properly pruned young peach trees set the stage for maximum yields of luscious fruit. Some nurseries sell unpruned (or improperly pruned) peach trees. Other nurseries sell "whips," which resemble long twigs instead of well-branched young trees. Our pruning experts have already shaped your tree so it arrives "garden-ready" and poised to bear fruit!
How Many Trees?
Some fruit trees require you to plant more than one so that the flowers can be cross-pollinated to set fruit. Peach trees are "self-fruitful," which means you can plant only one and get fruit from it. But if you plant more than one tree, they'll still cross-pollinate each other, which means they'll produce better?…and you'll enjoy more fruit!
