Delicate Good Looks and Drought-Tolerant Growth
This plant provides the look and feel of lavender meadows, even in harsh climates! The Russian Sage is a deciduous shrub that grows vigorously despite heat and drought conditions unsuited to many other plants.
The Russian Sage produces blooms in late summer with panicles of flowers that create cotton-candy like clouds atop woody stems. These clusters of lavender-blue flowers are made up of countless tiny, individual flowers. And just below the flowers, the leaves are finely cut and slightly scented. These narrow cut, gray-green leaves nearly disappear into abundant, purple flowers in the summer.
The Russian Sage makes a lively addition to any desert landscape or vibrant green garden. But our personal favorite way to display this variety is in cottage garden settings, as a border planting or mixed with perennials, ornamental grasses and succulents!
No matter where you choose to plant your Russian Sage, you’ll be pleased to know this shrub is tolerant to heat and drought - once established, it requires minimal waterings, thriving when it’s dry. Plus, it's pest and deer resistant, so although its bright, colorful flowers will attract pollinators, you won’t be troubled by pests - large or small!
If you’re ready to get lavender-like flowers without the maintenance, order your Russian Sage today!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant your Russian Sage in a location with well draining soil and full sun. Once you’ve chosen the location, dig a hole that's 2x the width of the container your plant was shipped in and around the same depth. Remove the plant from the container and gently loosen the roots. Place the plant in the hole and backfill the dirt.
2. Watering: After planting, immediately water your Russian Sage. As the plant becomes established in its new location, water it more frequently. Once established, water as needed.
3. Pruning: You may choose to prune your Russian Sage plant back before the winter as growth occurs on new wood.
