Planting & Care
Planting: Plant your Starfruit Tree in an area with full sun (at least 6-8 hrs of sun daily). Choose a spot relatively sheltered from wind.
Adaptable to most soils, your Starfruit Tree will do well in most types. However, be sure the soil is well draining and, if possible, use a mildly acidic (pH of 5.5-6.5) rich loam soil.
Your Starfruit Tree can be planted into a container pot or directly into the ground. If planting into the ground, give about an inch of root flare above the soil you pack in underneath it. (Root flare is the area from the top of the roots to where the trunk begins.)
Watering: Water generously once planted and then thereafter only when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dried out. Yellow, wilting leaves can indicate overwatering.
Fertilizer: You can fertilize with a well balanced fertilizer monthly from spring through fall (use a 10-10-10 or 12-12-12 formula).
Pollination: While Starfruit Trees are self-fertile, you can assist pollination by taking a small paintbrush and swirling it around the delicate lavender bloom. Repeat at the next bloom until you have done so for all blooms. The bloom will fall off and fruit will form.
Pruning: Prune in late winter and once a year or every two years.
