Awaken Your Mind and Body With Yerba Mate
The Yerba Mate Plant is known for its numerous benefits for both body and mind. When its bright green leaves are ready for harvest, they can be boiled in water to create a tea that has more caffeine than coffee and contains essential nutrients and vitamins to boost your health!
The flavor of Yerba Mate leaves is similar to green tea but slightly more bitter. It pairs well with honey for a fresh, smooth treat! Plus, it doesn't have the acidity that coffee does, so it's easy on the stomach.
Not only is this plant tasty and packed with healthy ingredients, but it's also tolerant of extreme temperatures and resistant to pests and diseases. It'll thrive both indoors and outdoors and doesn't require lots of sunlight, making it a low-maintenance plant to enjoy with ease!
And in the winter months, you can enjoy its fragrant, white blossoms that turn into bright red berries in the springtime. This unique variety is all-around perfect for the plant enthusiast that wants a beneficial yet easy-care option.
Snag your own Yerba Mate Plant, and enjoy its effortless growth and delicious, healthy leaves!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Your Yerba Mate will be happiest in a full to partial sun location. If possible, try putting it in a spot where it'll be protected from strong winds.
From there, ensure you dig a hole large enough to accommodate your Yerba's root ball in well-draining soil, place your plant, backfill and then water to settle the roots. You can also mulch the surrounding soil to lock in moisture.
2. Watering: Your Yerba Mate will require at least one weekly watering (mulch helps retain moisture so be sure to spread a good 2-3 inch layer around the base). Keep an eye on the area during the hot season as you might need to move up to a dual watering weekly.
3. Fertilizing: For the first year, during active growth in spring and summer, apply a 1/2 lb. of a slow-release, complete fertilizer every two months. For each following year, add an additional 1/2 lb. to each application.
