These plants will grow to about 15 feet in both height and width. This makes it an ideal hedge or dense border shrub. The leaves are a deep olive green with an oblong shape and the bark is a handsome grey. The berries have a bluish cast and appear only on the female plants (Both male and female are needed for berry production). The leaves have a spicy scent enjoyed by many gardeners.
It's a Crafty Plant
If you enjoy candle-making -- or you've always wanted to try your hand at this craft -- why not grow a plant in your own back yard that's a historical source of candle wax? Aptly named, the Wax Myrtle shrub's berries contain the secret ingredient -- a waxy coating that you can separate by boiling the fruit in water. This fragrant wax was used to make bayberry candles in Colonial times!
Birds Love Wax Myrtle Berries!
Wax Myrtle produces fruit clusters that contain thousands of berries. The wax-covered berries are favorite treats of around 40 bird species. If you're a backyard bird watcher, add Wax Myrtle to your plant list -- it's sure to attract species that you may have never seen before!

Delivery was on time and
Delivery was on time and the plants were well protected. It has been two weeks and am surprised that some of the leaves are still brown after planting. Would order again
Nice big plants
The shrubs arrived in great condition. They were bigger than I thought they would be. In spite of all the rain we have been getting lately, I think they're going to survive and thrive!
Very pleased with plants
The pre-order attempt at communication wasn't too good, but C-19 issues might be at fault there. Once I got answers I placed my order, it was processed promptly, and the shipment was on it's way with good tracking. When the plants arrived they looked terrific, but time and performance after planting is what really counts. I'm happy to say, just over a month later, those terrific looking new plants are sprouting new growth and retain their healthy appearance. These have proven to be better than the ones I got last year from a respected nursery in our area...…..nearly all of those died having never looked all that great.
Too Early To Tell...
The wax myrtles were packaged well and arrived on time, some of the leaves were browning on all three trees but that's to be expected given it being mail ordered. I put them in the ground as soon as I got them and while they are very small they seem to be healthy. The true test will be if they actually live, I won't know if that's the case for at least another 4-6 months as I have had wax myrtles die in the past, but not all of them. If they die I will definitely put in a new review, I planted as they should be and watered appropriately. The only thing I wish is that they were a little bigger out of the box, they were no more than 1' tall.
Great shrub
I received the wax myrtle a couple weeks ago and it was in really good shape. I've planted it in my yard and it is growing really well. I've used the leaves to make a bug repellent and am so happy with my plant. I'm looking forward to seeing if it is a male or female wax myrtle as it gets older.
